Stephin Merritt and friends have been in a hibernation of sorts, not having released an album in almost four years. They’re back with a new album, Love at the Bottom of the Sea, featuring Merritt’s idiosyncratic wit and unique perspective. That’s one way of putting it. A 1950s psychologist would have a field day with “Andrew in Drag”, but to me it’s just a pleasant melody talking about the complexity of love. Or something like that.
