Video of the Day: 2:54’s “You’re Early”

We could all identify with the pain Luke Wilson’s character (Mitch) felt in Old School, when he just happened to catch that early plane home from San Diego to find his world shattered by someone he trusted.  Lesson learned: It’s not always a good idea to be early.  Not always

If you are checking out British DarkWave revivalists 2:54, though, you may feel a bit more positively than Mitch did about being early to the party.  Their hazy and mysterious first album doesn’t drop Stateside (on Fat Possum Records) until May 28th, and after that they’ll be supporting it with their first trip across the pond to play a slew of coast-to-coast dates.

Comprised of sisters Colette and Hannah Thurlow, they have already attracted enough attention in the U.K. to land a gig opening for The XX while attracting significant attention in the blogosphere. A number of tracks are already available through various online outlets, including their video for the song, “You’re Early.”  May it leave you happier than Mitch was at first, and, as it did for him, also open doors to new possibilities (and maybe even some new Internet friends).

Behrnsie has a love for music that dare not speak its name. He attends many shows and can often be found counting out the beats for no discernible reason. He played alto saxophone in his middle school jazz band, where he was best known for infuriating his instructor when it was revealed that he played everything by ear, and could not in fact read music. He takes great pride that this is the same talent/affliction that got Tori Amos kicked out of the Peabody Academy. He does not live in his parents’ basement….except during the holidays.
