A band that doesn’t normally float your boat can still have its moments of undeniable genius. And so it is with Baltimore’s guitar-less Future Islands, performing “Seasons” on the Late Show with David Letterman. The band itself doesn’t do much beyond providing competent musicianship, backing their frontman ably. But it’s Samuel T. Herring‘s vocal range and seemingly authentic emotivity that make this performance memorable. It’s an intense performance; Herring is an unconventional frontman, but his delivery rises to the occasion and is searing and memorable. Future Islands is currently making its way to SXSW before a string of tour dates that also includes the Coachella Music Festival.
