Video of the Day | “Big Shot” by The Pack a.d.

Take the obvious guitar and drum rock combos you know, make them (all) female, and make them from Vancouver. And there, you have it…The Pack a.d.. Which is to say, a healthy dose of that Pacific NW grunge / Riot Grrrl added to the more conventional sounds of the standard rock and roll duo, combined with a sense of humor. Which, musically, might sound something like a description of L7. But the humor part is important, because, can you imagine Jack White putting together a video like the one for “Big Shot,” featuring dancing furries and sand dunes? Didn’t think so.

The new album, Do Not Engage is perhaps an ironic title given how often they’ve been showing up in social media feeds lately, but it offers 11 more tracks of their signature sound (which are even better in person). After playing the Pacific Northwest this past weekend, the band heads down the west coast before cutting across Texas and then back up towards Vancouver. Further touring awaits later this spring in Canada, the Midwest, and up the East Coast, plus an appearance at SXSW., before a few shows in Germany.

Behrnsie has a love for music that dare not speak its name. He attends many shows and can often be found counting out the beats for no discernible reason. He played alto saxophone in his middle school jazz band, where he was best known for infuriating his instructor when it was revealed that he played everything by ear, and could not in fact read music. He takes great pride that this is the same talent/affliction that got Tori Amos kicked out of the Peabody Academy. He does not live in his parents’ basement….except during the holidays.
