Summer = Rock.

I’ve seen a lot of shows lately that would not strictly qualify as rock and roll shows. As Summer Solstice passes us by, these longer days long for unapologetic straight-forward rock with guitar, bass and drum forming a triangle of awesomeness. You know the formula…music that smells of alfalfa, tobacco, and Bud Light. Music that wreaks of corn, baseball, and Kevin Costner. Music that you can set your watch to, and music to which you can drive down that lonely highway without a shroud of loneliness.

In that vein, I present for your aural pleasure, Mr. Matt Mays and friends, a.k.a. El Torpedo. R.I.Y.L:  Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Drive-By Truckers.

Behrnsie has a love for music that dare not speak its name. He attends many shows and can often be found counting out the beats for no discernible reason. He played alto saxophone in his middle school jazz band, where he was best known for infuriating his instructor when it was revealed that he played everything by ear, and could not in fact read music. He takes great pride that this is the same talent/affliction that got Tori Amos kicked out of the Peabody Academy. He does not live in his parents’ basement….except during the holidays.
