Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney gave a presidential plug to Guided by Voices. Noting that President Obama would be in Dayton, OH, with UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Carney said, “Dayton is the home of the Wright Brothers, the Dayton Peace Accords and Guided By Voices—the greatest rock and roll band of the modern era. In my humble opinion.” Meanwhile, Chris Martin can’t get past the fact that President Obama listens to Coldplay.  “I met Barack Obama and he said: ‘I have your songs on my iPod.’ But I thought: ‘I bet he says that to every pop star he meets,'” Martin recently told Express UK. “I can’t get my head around the notion that the president would have any of my songs on his playlist. It’s just too surreal.”

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes are out with their second album, Here, on May 29.

In today’s edition of the “Courtney Love is Crazy Report,” she goes after the Muppets—yes, those Muppets—for “raping” the memory of Kurt Cobain. Their offense: using a version of “Smells Like Teen Spirt” in the recent Muppet film.

Los Lobos have started their own festival in L.A. on Cinco de Mayo. It’s called … wait for it … the Los Lobos Cinco de Mayo Festival, and it features X, Alejandro Escovedo, Neko Case and Mariachi El Bronx, in addition to the Lobos.
