Moscow Punk Pranksters Pussy Riot Face 7 Years in Putin’s Prisons

You may recall that Weeping Elvis recently reported about the Moscow protest by (and subsequent arrest of) the all-women anti-Putin punk rock collective entitled Pussy Riot. As a worldly, urbane W.E. reader with an inherent love of all things sarcastic, iconoclastic, and melodic (not to mention a soft spot for Eastern European riot grrrls in ski-masks and day-glo dresses), you chuckled approvingly at their anti-authoritarian antics and anthems like “Putin Has Pissed Himself.”

Turns out that not everyone at the Kremlin was similarly bemused, especially a certain Vladimir Putin — who apparently views witty social protest with the same contempt he reserves for the democratic process. Fresh off of stealing his most recent election, the diminutive dic(tator) wasted no time in responding to Pussy Riot’s latest stunt/affront to his manhood (involving an anti-Putin “punk prayer” in a Moscow cathedral)  by sweeping two band members back into the Russian penal system.  This time, the women face seven years in prison for “hooliganism,” and were denied bail.

Hey Vlad — overcompensate much?
