LDR Covers From Very Different Mothers

Reigning Is-She-Or-Is-She-Not-Indie BuzzQueen Lana Del Rey has already inspired hundreds of covers of the few songs she’s actually released into the wild.  Two incredibly diverse verions of her song “Video Games” were put out recently, before the soon-to-host-SNL-chanteuse hasn’t even yet released her first album.

Titus Andronicus‘ freshly-shorn frontman Patrick Stickles set off a SERIOUS flurry of post-Christmas tweets with his cover and explanation of why he chose to spend almost 7 minutes of his life offering up his cover of Ms. Lizzie Grant’s insta-InterWebs-hit, “Video Games“. (9 million hits in the past few days….are you kidding me???).

In Mr. Stickle’s tweeted prose: “ME COVERING “VIDEO GAMES” BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN THE MAN IN THAT SONG #REALTALK.”

On the other hand, people don’t get quite as wound up about ambient ElectroDreamPop-ish covers, possibly because you can’t really fault the version San Francisco’s Silver Swans put out recently, but more likely because of the vast differences in the fanbases of the artists in question.

Here are the two, side-by-side…only on the Internet could this happen.

Behrnsie has a love for music that dare not speak its name. He attends many shows and can often be found counting out the beats for no discernible reason. He played alto saxophone in his middle school jazz band, where he was best known for infuriating his instructor when it was revealed that he played everything by ear, and could not in fact read music. He takes great pride that this is the same talent/affliction that got Tori Amos kicked out of the Peabody Academy. He does not live in his parents’ basement….except during the holidays.
