A good friend of mine has this interesting and incredibly unique habit of belting out the opening lyrics to The Outfield‘s 80’s classic guilty pleasure, “Your Love”. You know the song:
Josie’s on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I wanna say
You know I like my girls a little bit older
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don’t wanna lose your love tonight
It invariably occurs a few drinks into the evening, and it always creates a scene. Sometimes, it has a strangely beneficial outcome and attracts tipsy females who can’t wait to discuss the AWESOMENESS OF ’80’s MUSIC…other times, not so much. It turns out, some people don’t like ’80’s Brit Pop (if that’s a fair characterization of their music). Or maybe they don’t like the sound of unsolicited alcohol-induced karaoke.
Suffice to say, that when my friend invokes this schmaltzy classic…it’s a very different performance than seeing it covered by Bon Iver. Very very different. But possibly still slightly drunk.
