Happy 53rd birthday to Michael Stipe. The former lead singer of the legendary REM was born on this day in DeCatur, Georgia.

As for his childhood, he recently tweeted: “My second memory ever was hallucinatory. This speaks to the vastness, the grandiosity of the universe.”
