Andrew W.K. Partying in Bahrain with the State Dept. Or Not

Someone at the State Department didn’t do their due diligence. As reported by Mediaite, Andrew W.K., the author of party-pop anthems like “Party All Goddamn Night” and Party ’til You Puke” claimed on his website that he’d been tapped by the State Department to go to Bahrain on a speaking tour, as part of its Cultural Ambassadors program. “I feel very privileged and humbled by the chance to represent the United States of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying,” he wrote on his website.

Alas, Mother Jones reported today, it was all too good to be true for the noted partier. After speaking to a department spokesperson, the magazine writes, “While Andrew W.K. was invited by a US embassy ‘cultural speakers program’ for a possible overseas trip to Bahrain, the embassy in Manama later determined that the program was ‘not appropriate’ and canceled it promptly some time ago. (As for why the recording artist is still hyping up his imaginary position online is anybody’s guess.)”
