Video of the Day | Throwback Thursday Edition: Alannah Myles

Sultry. Steamy. Sexier than …. sorry, I can’t tell that story, but I’m sure you have your own life experience to insert here. And holy hell, Alannah Myles seemingly came out of nowhere (ok, Toronto) to release one of the most hip-groovin’ songs of the 1990s, (it was released in 1989 in Canada) before disappearing into nightclubs with candles on the tables and nefarious activities on the menu, having given the world almost five minutes of perfect back-country love-making music. Which, alone, is more than most will ever do.

Just don’t try to drink the liquor of the same name with orange juice and relive the mistakes of, ahem, others. Instead, warm up on a cold, autumn day with her #1 hit, “Black Velvet.”

Behrnsie has a love for music that dare not speak its name. He attends many shows and can often be found counting out the beats for no discernible reason. He played alto saxophone in his middle school jazz band, where he was best known for infuriating his instructor when it was revealed that he played everything by ear, and could not in fact read music. He takes great pride that this is the same talent/affliction that got Tori Amos kicked out of the Peabody Academy. He does not live in his parents’ basement….except during the holidays.
