Video of the Day | Lollapalooza Preview Edition: MS MR

New York’s MS MR is Lizzy Plapinger and Max Hershenow, an electro pop group that quickly gained attention with their 2012 EP, Candy Bar Creep Show. Certain elements of their layered pop compositions may remind listeners of Florence and the Machine or Adele, and if others seem appropriate for the silver screen, well, that’s not accidental, either.

The expansive pop songs on their 2013 release, Secondhand Rapture were produced by Tom Elmhurst, who has also worked with the aforementioned Adele. The albums shows off a melange of diverse influences, and ultimately they tie their varied songs together with a cohesive emotivity. On the catchier-than-a-cold track, “Think of You,” a self-reflective longing is revealed, and its sonic and emotional landscapes may remind listeners of those once explored in Kim Wilde‘s cover of The Supremes’ “You Keep Me Hanging On.”

The duo plays the The Grove stage at Lollapalooza on Sunday, August 4th at 3:30pm, with additional tour dates listed below.

Behrnsie has a love for music that dare not speak its name. He attends many shows and can often be found counting out the beats for no discernible reason. He played alto saxophone in his middle school jazz band, where he was best known for infuriating his instructor when it was revealed that he played everything by ear, and could not in fact read music. He takes great pride that this is the same talent/affliction that got Tori Amos kicked out of the Peabody Academy. He does not live in his parents’ basement….except during the holidays.
