Video(s) of the Day: Brazilian Girls

Some bands tour incessantly and capitalize on whatever momentum they may have. Others take their time, meandering about and popping their heads out occasionally to take a look around. In recent times, the relatively recently reformed Brazilian Girls have fallen in the latter category, emerging yet again this weekend with shows (tonight in Washington, D.C. at 9:30 Club, Sunday night in New York City at Highline Ballroom) and debuting new material slated for an upcoming record.

Their shows always combine an element of mystery and international intrigue — fittingly since the band’s members are spread across the world — coming together to create a uniquely flavored blend of music presented with idiosyncratic flair.

One thing is for certain, if you’re in either D.C. or New York, checking out Brazilian Girls will ensure that your holiday weekend is a “Good Time.” And if you’re on the fence, check out their video for “Jique” for a flavor of what you’ll be missing.

Behrnsie has a love for music that dare not speak its name. He attends many shows and can often be found counting out the beats for no discernible reason. He played alto saxophone in his middle school jazz band, where he was best known for infuriating his instructor when it was revealed that he played everything by ear, and could not in fact read music. He takes great pride that this is the same talent/affliction that got Tori Amos kicked out of the Peabody Academy. He does not live in his parents’ basement….except during the holidays.
