In today’s edition of our Bonnaroo preview, we take a look at Lucius. The band, singers and co-songwriters Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig plus three incidental guys, tweets as @ilovelucius. Love them we do.
Their NPR Tiny Desk Concert is one of the most talked about so far this year. Rolling Stone called them one of this year’s SXSW “must see” bands. They play Bonnaroo on Saturday at the same time as fellow up-and-comer Lord Huron, setting up a tough choice for any lover of airy, majestic, and (fine, we’ll say it) luscious music.
The ladies of Lucius sing with the soul (and tight harmony) of The Supremes, but they are decisively indie rock. They have all the cute of Zooey Deschanel, but their overall sound has more in common with Cults, Feist and Bat for Lashes.
Lucius is set to release a full length disc in the fall. Odds are good that Saturday’s audience will get a sneak preview, which may be reason enough to go.
