For today’s second installment of our Bonnaroo video preview, we turn to one Frank Turner, the English singer-songwriter who’s just beginning to get his due in the United States. On Friday afternoon, Turner and his band, The Sleeping Souls, takes the stage in “That Tent.”
For the uninitiated, Turner started out fronting the post-hardcore band, Million Dead. When that band broke up in 2005, he embarked on a largely solo acoustic-based career, which he’s said was inspired by Bruce Springsteen‘s Nebraska. Lately, he’s alternated between the solo thing and a more aggressive form of British power pop, backed by his four-piece band.
Since the dissolution of Oasis, Turner might just be the foremost practitioner of English pop songcraft working now.
